About the Conference

The Transylvanian Political Science Conference

The first Transylvanian Political Science Conference was organized in 2011, with the organizer’s unconcealed intention to generate a more active institutionalization of the Hungarian political science in Romania. Political science is a young discipline in Romania. The first department was founded in 1991 in Bucharest, followed by the Political Science Faculty of the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, established in 1995, while a Hungarian language teaching was launched in 1997 at the same university.

The goal of the first conference was to organize a meeting point for Hungarian scholars, young researchers and political science students where they could talk about the most important political events from Central and Eastern Europe in general, and Romania and the situation of the Hungarian community in particular. Moreover, the conference was a good ground for the formation of Hungarian political science in Romania, as part of both the Hungarian and Romanian political science, but still an autonomous sphere.

Changing the language of the conference from Hungarian and Romanian to English the event could be a meeting place for young scholars and researchers from Central and Eastern Europe, which could generate cooperation between those interested in political science. In other words, the Transylvanian Political Science Conference tries to contribute with its modest means to this bridge-building process.
